Simone Biles fires back at Instagram users who mocked her near-death experience, reveals medical emergency

3 hours ago 1

Simone Biles found time to respond to Instagram users with very few followers this week, after the users commented mocking the gymnast for posting vacation photos days after revealing an apparent near-death experience.

The users commented on one of Biles' recent posts showing photos of the gymnast on vacation, just two weeks after Biles revealed she had a near-death experience in a post where she wrote she "almost died." Biles has not revealed specifics about the incident.

"Almost died but look at these traveling selfies," one user, with just over 2,200 followers, wrote on Tuesday.

Biles responded to the comment on Thursday.

"Ugh, these comments make me sad. A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here. I hope you understand that life-changing experiences can shift your perspective and that you're able to extend a little more grace to other moving forward," Biles wrote.

Another user, with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, "almost died but on vacation drinking?"

Biles responded to that comment too, writing, "I don't owe you anything, but have you heard of non-alcoholic drinks?"

Another user, also with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, "You look good for someone who almost died."

Biles responded to that comment as well, writing, "Two weeks bedrest."

On her Instagram story on June 6, Biles shared vague details about the near-death experience, without recounting any specifics, with the background just being a photo of her hand.

"I'm not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today's age. But almost dying wasn't on my bingo card this week," Biles wrote.

"This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I've been in bed resting this week. I'll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers."

Biles has declined to reveal specifics about what happened.

"Not ready to talk about it just yet," she wrote in a reply to a comment earlier this week.

Biles is married to Jonathan Owens, who is a safety for the Indianapolis Colts. The couple has been married since 2023, though Owens' NFL career has occasionally forced them to spend time apart. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he has played for five different teams.

The two met while Owens was with the Houston Texans in 2019. Biles lives in Texas, where the couple has built a massive home together. Since his time in Houston, Owens has also played for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and now the Colts.

Back in November, Biles revealed that she had recently undergone three plastic surgeries.

"I've had three plastic surgeries and two of them you would never be able to tell," she said in a TikTok video that month.
